ABOUT

Paul Mulder and Albert Buring met at the Minerva art academy in Groningen, where they both studied graphic design. During their studies they and a mutual friend started their first graphic design studio. They rented an upper floor of an old warehouse. Here they worked on logos, identities, posters and illustrations. Slowly this developed into an agency that was mainly active in the city of Groningen.

After some years of cooperation, Paul and Albert decided to continue their collaboration together. They continued under the name Studio 212 Fahrenheit and wrote down a number of goals for the coming years. There was a gradual shift from graphic to spatial work. They began to execute their concepts more and more spatially, with the graphic work slowly fading into the background. They found that they could express their ideas more strongly in spatial work, giving it more eloquence and value. They became fascinated by the world of art and design.

In 2019, they made the rigorous decision to stop their graphic design work and throw themselves entirely into making art and design. The graphic signature is still sometimes recognizable in their current work.

Paul&Albert's work could best be described as everyday objects with a twist. Examples include a side table with the appearance of a bee, an office table where the chair is sunk into the tabletop (Chairman), a chair that has the posture of a dog (Dog chair) and a cushion that features a belly button, as well as a side table with a too-short leg that is raised to level using a jack (PANNE).

Paul&Albert work both independently and on commission. Their clients include collectors, museums (exhibition design), companies (interior/object design) and governments. Their studio is housed in the beautiful premises of Vos interior. Here their work is also on display and for sale.
